President's Message
11/02/2004

Dear fellow Rotarians,

The election for our District Governor Nominee (DGN) was already held last October 14, 2004. A District Nominating Committee (DNC) which is composed of the Immediate Past District Governor as the Chairman and Presiding Officer but non-voting and 12 members (6 from Manila, 3 from Cavite, 2 from Pasay and 1 from Mindoro) was tasked to elect the DGN. Although we had discussed about this in one of our previous meetings, I failed to formally recognize and congratulate the newly elected DGN in our bulletin, so before it becomes too late, congratulations to DGN Lyne Abanilla for being elected as the leader of this premier district in RY 2006-2007. DGN Lyne was a Past President of RC Intramuros (classmate of PP Boyet Castro), also recently selected as the GSE Team Leader outbound for Brazil and the Assistant Vice President of Manila Bulletin Publishing Corp. So to DGN Lyne, we assure you of the RC CEPZ support during your term. Also, congratulations to the DNC (especially to AG Maeng Mercado as one of the members) for the orderly and “unchallenged” election. But most of all, congratulations to District Governor Joel Tinitigan; his transparency and honesty are truly influential in the conduct and outcome of this election.

Before we end the month of October as the Vocational Service Month, the District had launched the Job Opportunity Enhancement Learning (JOEL) last October 30, 2004 at Cavite School of Life in Bacoor, Cavite. We had sent four (4) participants courtesy of IPP Gabe Trias who were given the chance to learn about plumbing, tile setting, carpentry and painting. And as we observed the month of November as The Rotary Foundation Month, RC CEPZ shall be co-hosting the TRF Seminar this November 13, 2004 at Casa Marinero in Intramuros, Manila. Again, the attendance of everyone is much requested. On November 23, 2004, a TRF Dinner will be held in Manila Hotel hosted by RC Pasay Silangan. This is in recognition of the TRF contributors as of October 31, 2004. Among the honorees are the wife and daughter of PP Alex Cayaba, Amelia and Alisandra Cayaba, AG Maeng Mercado, Sec. Marni Sy and yours truly.

The Rotaract Club of CEPZ sponsored a Plant Visit for the members of the Interact Club of ILAMS last October 28, 2004. I would like to thank the companies who participated, South Gold Garments Corp. thru Dir. James Huang and Hayakawa Electronics Phils. Corp. thru Dir. Dong Lee and Mr. Mario Ponce de Leon.

Yesterday, November 1, most of us went to the cemetery to visit the grave and remember once more our departed love ones as we celebrate the All Saints’ Day (according to our Parish Priest it should be Nov. 2 as the All Souls’ Day). But I believe one thing that we should also think of on this day is the temporariness of life and the permanence of death. And since life is only temporary, we should consider every day as an opportunity to do good things and extend the best service to our less fortunate fellowmen. Well, this is just a reminder, for I know, doing good things and be of service is inherent in every Rotarians.
