RC CEPZ to Officiate Transcend-Tagaytay Extreme
Department of Tourism and City of Tagaytay to host Bike Races on Oct. 25-26

September 13, 2008 - Rotary Club of Cavite Export Processing Zone (RC CEPZ) will officiate a Mountain Bike and BMX Racing hosted by the Department of Tourism and the City of Tagaytay's entitled Transcend - Tagaytay Extreme, to be held on October 25-26 in Tagaytay City. In cooperation with the members of Rotaract Club of Cavite Economic Zone led by RC CEPZ Past President Gabe Trias, officiating will cover the BMX Supercross and 4 Cross Competition strictly complying with Union Cycliste Internationale rules. This event features our country’s top cyclists in 4 Cross, BMX Racing, Dirt Jumping and Mountain Bike Downhill Competition, as well as cycling enthusiasts in one festive event of speed, guts, and strength. PP Gabe has invited Rotary Clubs in Cavite Area to take part in this event. He also has expressed to extend the invitation to the whole RI District 3810.

Rotaract Club of Cavite Economic Zone member Jeff Odviar from Barangay Bagbag, Rosario, Cavite will be competing in all 3 events: MTB Downhill Competition, 4 Cross and BMX Racing. Jeff is an sports scholar of RC CEPZ's Sports Development program for the youth. PP Gabe Trias on the other hand has officiated top rank bike racing competition including the 23rd Southeast Asian Games demo race held last November 30, 2005 also in Tagaytay City BMX Race Track. The Philippines hosted the BMX Demonstration Race in Tagaytay City prompted by the request of ASEAN Cycling Association (ACA) President Haji Abu Samah Wahab in view of the inclusion of BMX Race in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. During this year, PP Gabe was appointed in the newly formed Philippine BMX Commission under the Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines who was the official organizer of the 23rd SEA Games Cycling events.

PP Gabe started to get involved in the field of bicycle sports competition since 1998 when he organized the 1st Rosario BMX Open where expert and experienced riders from Pasig, Las Piñas, Makati and Parañaque competed for cash prizes in addition to the medals and trophies and a mountain bike. The next year, the whole month of May, 1999, he organized a series of competitions named the Rosario Classic '99. In May 2001, a group of more experienced Mountain Bikers from Manila and Quezon City competed in a BMX and Mountain Bike dirt races named - Fiesta Extravaganza 2001. The next year, the Fiesta Extravaganza 2002 was organized with more riders again from Manila and Quezon City. Other top ranked bicycle competition PP Gabe has officiated include: 2nd Tagaytay Eagle of the Mountain Cycling Challenge held in Tagaytay City on February 12, 2006, SRAM 4X/BMX Racing Cup held in Batasan Hills, Quezon City on April 22, 2007; 2008 Rolling Lane 4X/BMX Racing Challenge held also in Batasan Hills, Quezon City on January 20, 2008; the Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival 4X Championship held in Subic Bay Freeport on April 5-6, 2008; and the 5th Dipolog BMX Riders Association (DBMXRA) BMX Racing & Four Cross Competition held last June 3-5 in Zamboanga del Norte.

Also, PP Gabe with 5 other bike sports enthusiasts organized the Philippine National Bicycle League  in January, 2008 with a mission to lead in the ongoing development of cycling, specifically in Mountain Bike and BMX as a sport and as a leisure activity in and for the community by:

  1. Promoting mountain biking and BMX as an environment-friendly activity

  2. Unifying bike organizations, bike clubs, and individuals under one regulating body

  3. Regulating and standardizing race rules and regulations in line with UCI standards

  4. Developing athletes both for MTB and BMX

  5. Setting programs for community development through cycling
