RAC CEZ Plants 1000 Mahogany Trees in General Trias, Cavite

Gen. Trias, Cavite, October 21, 2006 - Rotary Club of Cavite Export Processing Zone accompanied by officers and members of the sponsored Rotaract Clubs of Cavite Economic Zone, Rotaract Club of Cavite State University-Rosario and Interact Club of Rosario National High School conducted a tree planting activity in response to General Trias Municipal Mayor Jonjon Ferrer's call for the preservation of the riverbanks at Barangays Manggahan and Biclatan in Gen. Trias, Cavite. Ms. Neri Marques, the Municipal Agriculturist of Gen. Trias, requested that the trees donated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) be planted at these riverbanks to control its erosion and prevent further damage populated by residents of the said communities. Originally planned by RC CEPZ, the trees were to be planted along the highway at the Bacao Bypass Road in Gen. Trias, Cavite in conjunction with DENR's flagship "Green Philippine Highways." After the record flooding in the lowland municipalities of Rosario, Noveleta and Gen. Trias due to the collapsing of the 2 dams in Gen. Trias caused by the devastating typhoon Milenyo last September 28th, Ms. Marquez requested that the trees be planted along these riverbanks. The group proceeded as early as 7:00 a.m. to the Barangay Hall of Manggahan, Gen. Trias, Cavite to pick up some 1000 mahogany seedlings for delivery to the two locations. The group first went to the riverbank located in Barangay Manggahan to plant 500 seedlings then to Barangay Biclatan to plant another 500 seedlings.
